The US Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Bertholf (WMSL-750), while participating in a Western Pacific patrol with the US Navy, transited the Taiwan Strait accompanied by the USS Curtis Wilbur. While on this patrol the USCGC Bertholf experienced a malfunction with a Navy type system and required spare parts to be expedited to its next port of call. Although this is a routine transit for the USN, it is the first time a USCGC WMSL-750 cutter transited the Straits of Taiwan. Due to a disruption in the Navy supply chain, the necessary parts were not available in the required timeline to meet the cutter's availability.
This resulted in the USCG supply support group reaching out to the National Security Cutter (NSC) Program Office where THOR employee Mr. Tim McClenahan was able to work with PEO C4I and assess the inventory of new production assets. Within 48 hours of notification, Mr. McClenahan working with PEO C4I was able to identify the location of the necessary parts and coordinate the removal and shipping of these parts to the cutter during its availability. This enabled the cutter to get underway in a fully operational status and complete the patrol.
Mr. McClenahan and the PEO C4I staff were thanked by the Technical Director of the NSC Program Office (CG-9321) and the Captain of the Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) Long Range Enforcer (LRE), and Product Line Manager (PLM) for the great team effort involved in resolving this mission disabling malfunction on USCGC Bertholf.
