The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Educational Conference (I/ITSEC) hails as the world’s largest Modeling, Simulation and Training (MS&T) event. This large event draws 17,000+ exhibit visitors, exhibit personnel, and conference attendees to 210,000+ square feet of exhibits. The most recent gathering was held November 27–December 1, 2023, in Orlando, FL. Attendees were able to view cutting-edge training equipment and simulations technologies that may be used by the military and industry. This conference helps organizations find the resources they need to adapt to new tasks and threats of tomorrow in our ever-changing world. Exhibit displays included computer-based 3D graphics, simulators (flight, ship and gun), medical avatars, robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Information Technology (IT).
I/ITSEC consists of peer-reviewed paper presentations, tutorials, special events, professional workshops, a commercial exhibit hall, a serious games competition, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) events for teachers and secondary students. THOR’s very own Human Systems Integration (HSI) expert, Dr. Valarie Yerdon, served on the Cognitive Augmentation for Military Applications panel. For the Best Paper Session 1, Dr. Yerdon was instrumental in presenting a group paper entitled, “Wires Crossed in a Digital World: How to Prevent Misalignments in Human and AI Decision Making.”
I/ITSEC is organized and sponsored by the National Training & Simulation Association (NTSA), which promotes international and interdisciplinary cooperation within the fields of Modeling and Simulation (M&S), training, education, analysis, and related disciplines at this annual meeting. The NTSA is an affiliate subsidiary of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), so I/ITSEC also emphasizes defense and security themes.
THOR attendees included COO Dan Henderson, Dr. Valarie Yerdon, Jennifer Bougher, Tina Seva’aetasi, and Karen Holland. Karen Holland stated, “It was exciting to connect with current and past partners as well as forging relationships with possible future partners to discuss upcoming opportunities, while
experiencing cutting-edge training technology.”
