Korey Gross, PMP, SEC+

VP / Division Manager, Engineering Services

Mr. Korey Gross is THOR’s Vice President / Division Manager, Engineering Services. Mr. Gross has more than ten years of experience in professional engineering. He has held various engineering positions with several companies, including The Columbia Group and General Dynamics Land Systems. Directly prior to working at THOR, he was a Project Engineer at The Columbia Group. He supported cutter and ship alterations for the USCG and Military Sealift Command (MSC).  Mr. Gross also provided engineering support to PMS377 J Division Technical Team (subcontractor) for the Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC), Landing Craft Utility (LCU) and Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC). He served as Technical Lead on several tasks and developed cost estimates for the Offshore Patrol Cutter design.

As a Project Manager and Senior Mechanical Engineer, Mr. Gross has demonstrated experience as a technical lead and project engineer in the marine industry. He led projects for shipboard modifications for the United States Coast Guard, United States Navy, and Military Sealift Command vessels. USCG work has included some of the largest modification projects ever completed on the National Security Cutter. Projects include performing as the Technical Lead for the Structural Enhancements Drydock Availability of USCGC BERTHOLF and USCGC WAESCHE, leading structural changes for the Dual Point Davit and Overhead Traveling Crane prototype installation on USCGC STRATTON, and assisting with the integration of the Small Unmanned Aerial System prototype on STRATTON.

Mr. Gross’s structural engineering background also includes completion of various finite element analyses which have received regulating body approval. Among these analyses were static and dynamic studies, including welded structures, machine components, plastics, and polymers. He is a published technical writer having authored a thesis, a publication for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and co-authored an article for the Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures.

Mr. Gross earned a B.S. degree and a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Pittsburgh. He also is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
