Dan Henderson

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Daniel Henderson is THOR’s Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Henderson has more than three decades of uniformed Navy and contractor support experience. Prior to joining THOR, Mr. Henderson completed a 38-year active duty career in the US Navy, including tours as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Material Readiness / Deputy Force Maintenance Officer, where he managed the planning, programming, budgeting, and execution of maintenance availabilities for over 82 ships, including the administration of an annual maintenance budget of more than $1B. Mr. Henderson directed a cross-functional team of 23 officers, 33 civilians, 55 contractors, and 63 Port Engineers ensuring force readiness of the Atlantic Fleet through execution of a $2.5B maintenance budget for the planning and execution of 44 Chief of Naval Operations Availabilities and 167 Continuous Maintenance Availabilities for the repair, restoration, and renewal of 70 ships. In support of the Navy’s green fleet initiative, he delivered a 3% reduction in energy consumption, and developed and implemented numerous Fleet energy initiatives.

Mr. Henderson’s experience includes serving as Director for Inspections, Director of Expertise Management, Director for Craft and Auxiliary Forces, and Senior Inspector for the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV), where he led teams of more than 80 military and civilian subject matter experts in the execution of Material Inspections of 52 in-service warships, 38 amphibious craft, 106 service craft, 8 non-standard boats and 10 virtual boats during his two-year tour. He also served as Commanding Officer of the Center for Naval Engineering and Director of Enlisted Engineering Training, a major affiliate of the Surface Warfare Officer School Command that included nine surface warfare technical training sites worldwide with 650 instructors, and a student throughput of 50,000 personnel per year. In addition, Mr. Henderson served as the Norfolk Ship Support Activity / Mid Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center Executive Officer / Engineering Department Head for the Navy’s primary shore-based ship repair facility on the East Coast. He was directly responsible for providing technical oversight and fleet assistance for more than 70 vessels home ported in Norfolk, VA. He also developed solutions to drive success in Ballistic Missile Defense, Total Ship Readiness Assessment, Total Ship Test Plan, and INSURV/BMDRA initiatives.

His prior tours included serving as the Director at the US Navy’s Hotlines Division, Assistant Chief of Staff for Material, Maintenance, and Logistics, and Oil Spill Response Officer at Commander Expeditionary Strike Group Two, Commanding Officer at Southeast Regional Maintenance Center Detachment Pascagoula, Maintenance Officer at Commander Regional Support Group in Mayport, FL, Chief Engineer and Damage Control Officer aboard USS SAIPAN (LHA 2), Material Officer at Mine Countermeasures Squadron Three, Repair Officer / Production Officer at Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity Norfolk, VA, and Chief Engineer aboard USS SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON (FFG 13).

Mr. Henderson earned a BS in Liberal Arts with a Concentration in Administrative and Management Studies from Excelsior College.
