This past March, THOR’s COO Mr. Rich Miner, Senior Vice President Mr. Dan Henderson, and the local Virginia Beach THOR team visited Assault Craft Unit (ACU) FOUR, the U.S. Navy’s East Coast home to 32 Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) 1 class amphibious hovercraft used to transport equipment and personnel from amphibious support ships to the shore. While onboard they met with the two Thor On-Site Representatives (OSR) supporting the Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC) project, Mr. Chris Chapman and Mr. Mike MacDonald.

The SSC, now designated as LCAC-100, is the future replacement craft for the current LCAC-1 class. Mr. Miner was briefed on capability differences between the LCAC-1 and LCAC-100 as well as future training and maintenance requirements. Following the brief, the team toured the LCAC facilities and observed the current maintenance shops and capabilities for the various craft systems. Major topics of discussion included maintainer training and integration of future facility requirements. Other topics and areas of concern for the command include logistics support including technical documentation, maintenance procedures, part support, special tools, and unique stands and carts. The OSRs at ACU FOUR have been working with the command the Navy’s Amphibious Warfare Program (PMS 377), to ensure a smooth transition from the LCAC-1 to the LCAC-100.

COO Rich Miner was so impressed by his March visit to ACU FOUR, he brought CEO Johnny Walker to see the team during the May Executive Steering Committee (ESC) meeting.
