THOR provides the US Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) System Safety Department (G70) with programmatic, engineering, technical and administrative support services. This includes safety risk assessment for a variety of operations and combat / weapon systems from acquisition though in-service life cycle support. THOR’s support services of NSWCDD are in compliance with the Department of Defense Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook, Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 5000.2 Operation of the Defense Acquisition System, NAVSEA Instruction (NAVSEAINST) 8020.6E Navy Weapon Systems Explosives Safety Review Board (WSERB), NAVSEAINST 9700.2 Integrated Topside Safety and Certification Program for Surface Ships, and Military Standard (MIL-STD)-882E System Safety. THOR supports Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) system safety requirements, including development and refinement of System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs) to implement systematic approaches of hazard analysis, risk assessment, risk management, hazard list identification and analysis at the requirement, system, sub-system, functional, and operational levels, as well as system of system hazard, Test and Evaluation (T&E), and environmental analysis. Support is provided primarily in Dahlgren, VA.
