THOR provides the US Coast Guard Polar Icebreaker Program Office with programmatic and engineering support to address the requirement for new heavy icebreakers to ensure continued year-round access to both polar regions and support the nation’s economic, commercial, maritime, and national security needs. THOR icebreaker support involves development of acquisition approaches, trade off studies, cost assessments and systems engineering. THOR efforts for Polar Icebreaker included operational requirements development as informed by interagency stakeholders, industry data package support and high-profile industry days. THOR completed a comprehensive study to identify solutions for the heavy Polar Icebreaker that minimize cost, schedule, production and technology risk.
