Mr. Paul Fields is THOR’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). He is responsible for overall operations management and personnel management, as well as THOR’s strategic planning, outlook and growth. Mr. Fields has over 30 years of experience in US Navy program and operations management, including a 27-year Naval career, and experience interacting with shipbuilders, contractors, and government civilians.
Prior to joining THOR, Mr. Fields served as the General Manager of NASSOC-Earl Industries’ Norfolk Ship Repair Yard. There he established and implemented departmental policies, goals, objectives and procedures, and managed activities and correspondence directly related to providing services to NASCO-Earl’s customer, specifically the US Navy, to foster long term business relationships.
Mr. Field’s experience also includes serving as the Vice President and Director, of the Navy Expeditionary Directorate at American Systems. In this role he provided sustaining support to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and developed the management and overarching structure for the US Navy’s Engineering Readiness Assist Teams (ERAT). He was responsible for all operations of his division work allocation, rate and goal planning, employee hiring, performance reviews, business plan development, contract administration and budgeting, and project coordination.
Paul Fields has over 30 years of experience serving in and working for the U.S. Navy. He enlisted at the age of 17, and after a highly successful 27 year Navy career, he retired as a Commander, Engineering Limited Duty Officer with extensive experience in surface engineering operations, maintenance, program management, inspection and training, Submarine Sub-Safe, Nuclear maintenance, Special Warfare and Special Operations support/maintenance.
Mr. Field’s 27 year Naval career includes extensive experience in surface engineering operations, maintenance, program management, inspection and training, Submarine Sub-Safe, Nuclear maintenance, Special Warfare and Special Operations support/maintenance. During his career, Mr. Fields held the titles of Repair Officer, Sublant/Subpac QA Officer, Dive Officer and Naval Personnel Command Assignment Officer. He served as the Chief Engineer on 5 different warships, including USS Inchon (MCS-12) in 2001-02 and USS Wasp (LHD-1) where he was recognized by the Type Commander (TYCOPM) as the top Chief Engineer in the Surface Force Command. Additionally, he served as the Commander Mine Warfare Command Chief Engineer, on the Board of Inspection and Survey as the Senior Damage Control Inspector and primary consultant to the Admiral (PREINSURV) on all matters concerning Damage Control, Steam, Diesel, and Gas Turbine operations and training. He also served as the Commanding Officer and Officer In Charge of the Center Naval Engineering Learning Site in Norfolk, overseeing the management and execution of all 220 courses of instruction across 14 CNE Learning Sites. Mr. Fields retired as Commander, Engineering Limited Duty Officer.
Mr. Fields holds a B.A. in Engineering Management from Western Illinois University and a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Black Belt.
